One of my favorite things about participating in markets (besides meeting people who love my work enough to buy it!), is meeting other artists. Last month, I met Marsha and her work instantly caught my eye because of the colorful interpretations of the female body. Her work is very expressive and I couldn’t wait to learn more about it. Continue reading to see some of her paintings for sale and to hear more about this artist’s passion.
Give her a follow out her IG @marshaalmodovar. If you’re interested in purchasing her art email her at marshaalmodovar@yahoo.com. Her work ranges from $150-500. She will have a book reading on December 16th at Citizen Vinyl, 2pm.
Carolina: What inspires your work?
Marsha: So many things such as bright colors, emotions, the natural world, and my child. I’m really connected to telling the story of reclaiming the autonomy of my own body, body image and healing generational trauma through art. In this environment of capitalism and repression, we view nudity as either pornographic or a function of sexual gaze; when in fact it is just our natural state of eroticism and sensuality that flows into all the creative parts of our lives, including motherhood and nature.
Carolina: What is your cultural background?
Marsha: I’m Boricua full Puerto Rican.
Carolina: What are your hobbies outside of art?
Marsha: I’m an outdoorsy kind of gal. I love to hike, explore new places, and be in the water. I’m super spontaneous so I’m always down for last minute trips or watching a sunset, just getting out in the world and seeing it all. I love trying new food, whether that means cooking with friends or going out to dinner at a restaurant. Also, I’m a big reader and I enjoy scribbling stories in my journals.
