This month I’ve been working on a series of watercolors. I’ve been inspired by landscapes that I have visited in the past. Exploring with layers of color and combinations of light and shadow to create a unified piece has been very fun and an adventure. I revisited places that I saw some time ago like the amazing Sequoia National Park and Craggy Gardens in the Blue Ridge Parkway. These wonderful scenes captured me as I hiked through the forest and still inspire me today. I love the strong red-orange color of the trunk on the sequoias and the contrast it creates with the delicate green foliage. In addition, the movement of the trees at Craggy gardens has a melody of it’s own. Another recent piece that I worked on was the Hellebore watercolor which depicts the flower from different points of view. This plant is one that catches my attention every year. It blooms in late winter and it is a beautiful sight among the dormant plants. I am looking forward to working on a small series of paintings inspired by my recent visit to the desert in Arizona and New Mexico.
