A Walk Among the Rocks
Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
16″ X 40″
This summer I traveled to New England and my adventure led me to Blue Shutters Beach in Rhode Island. The sky was clear and the water was peaceful. There weren’t a lot of waves but a fresh, cool breeze created movement in the water. I swam and played in the ocean. I wore my goggles and explored underneath the surface. There were beautiful white rocks laying all over the sand. As the sun went down, the sky took on a pink color and the reflections on the water were mesmerizing. After taking in the sun and a short nap, I went for a walk along the shore. As I looked out towards the horizon, the sky seemed to almost fade in with the water. Shortly, I arrived at a spot lined with rocks. I jumped from rock to rock observing my surroundings and underneath the surface of the ocean. I saw shells, fish, rocks, and algae. It is a whole new world under the sea waiting to be discovered and explored.
My painting, A Walk Among the Rocks, is that memory captured with paint. The painting is on a 16″ X 40″ gallery wrapped canvas and was done using acrylic paint in multiple layers. It is a panoramic painting that will fill any space in which it is placed with radiant and peaceful energy due to the minimal and complementary color palette I used. The variations in colors and shapes on the water surface hint at the surrounding sky light, shadows of rocks, and rocks hiding beneath the surface. In the distance you can see the open sea waters peacefully drifting and some subtle waves approaching. It truly embraces the feelings of a calm, peaceful, and beautiful afternoon seaside stroll.
